In a landmark development set to redefine Nigeria’s automotive landscape, Electric Motor Vehicles Company (EMVC) has entered a pioneering partnership with UK-based Jupiter Lithium Limited. The two entities have signed a comprehensive five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aimed at establishing Nigeria as a dominant force in the production of electric vehicles (EVs) and creating a robust local electric mobility industry.
This strategic alliance marks a decisive step towards transforming Nigeria into a vital hub in the burgeoning global green economy. By merging EMVC’s established expertise in sustainable vehicle manufacturing with Jupiter Lithium’s leadership in lithium resource development, the partnership aspires to capitalize on Nigeria’s untapped potential in raw materials essential for EV production.
Dr. Davis, a leading figure in the collaboration, emphasized that the five-year plan is designed to position Nigeria at the forefront of the international lithium supply chain. He highlighted how this collaboration hopes to close critical gaps in the domestic electric vehicle ecosystem by establishing a complete, integrated value chain within the country. “The groundbreaking partnership unites EMVC’s proven capacity for developing eco-friendly vehicles with Jupiter’s advanced lithium-to-vehicle innovation,” he explained. “This model exemplifies how global cooperation can catalyze Nigeria’s economic transformation and industrial resurgence.”
As part of its overarching goal, the collaboration aims to develop Nigeria’s manufacturing sector, creating a comprehensive ecosystem that includes battery-grade chemical production and lithium battery assembly facilities. These initiatives align with Nigeria’s ambitious sustainability targets and its desire to reduce dependency on imported, environmentally taxing technologies.
Prince Mustapha Audu, Chairman of EMVC, articulated enthusiasm about the project’s transformative potential. He noted that leveraging Jupiter’s high-quality SC6 spodumene concentrate—one of the world’s highest-grade lithium ores—alongside EMVC’s automotive manufacturing capabilities will greatly accelerate Nigeria’s electric vehicle ambitions. The operations are planned to be concentrated on a sprawling site covering over 100 square kilometers in Kaduna State, promising substantial economic stimulation for the region.
Audu explained that the partnership is poised to significantly improve Nigeria’s trade balance by reducing its reliance on imported batteries and EV components. It is also a critical step toward building local capacity within the mining and automotive sectors, fostering technological transfer, and uplifting local communities through skills development programs. The initiative’s holistic approach aims to generate employment, promote environmental sustainability, and stimulate economic growth across multiple states through ramped-up operations managed by Range Mining Limited and Basin Mining Limited.
“This collaboration is not just about producing electric vehicles,” Audu declared. “It’s about pioneering technological innovation, creating sustainable jobs, and positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global green mobility revolution. We are committed to making Nigeria a powerhouse of clean energy solutions while supporting our national environmental commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
As Nigeria gears up to take this bold stride into a greener future, the partnership with Jupiter Lithium Limited signals a new dawn for the nation’s automotive industry—one driven by innovation, sustainability, and strategic global alliances.
